UM22-03: The Effect of the Americans with Disabilities Act on Supplemental Security Income

Abstract
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was introduced in 1990 with the goal of protecting disabled workers. While a number of studies have examined the ADA’s impact on the disabled individuals’ employment, it is important to also understand its impact on their Supplemental Security Income (SSI) use. In this project, I will use state and county administrative data to assess the ADA’s effect on SSI outcomes, complementing a current project looking at the ADA’s effect on Social Security Disability Insurance.
