The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is projected to reduce labor supply, and these reductions may be concentrated among workers nearing traditional retirement age. As we await data on labor force outcomes for 2014, reflecting the first full year of the law’s implementation, there is much to learn from evaluating earlier state-level reforms. We propose to evaluate 11 earlier coverage expansions similar to ACA in order to estimate a range of possible effects of the new law on retirement. Our proposed research would provide the first estimates of recent coverage expansions on retirement.
