The validity and reliability of the tools SSA uses to assess claimant physical and mental functional capacity and physical and mental occupational requirements is critical to the effective provision of disability benefits and employment support services. This project will use nationally-representative data from the 2014 Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP) to investigate the relationship between impairment type, functional capabilities, occupational requirements, and vocational factors. In doing so, this project will lay the foundation for future studies investigating the reliability of existing and new assessment tools used in the SSA disability determination process.
