Julie Zissimopoulos

Julie M. Zissimopoulos is an Associate Professor in the USC Price School of Public Policy and the Director of the Initiative on Aging and Cognition at the Leonard D. Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics. She co-directs the National Institute on Aging funded Resource Center for Minority Aging Research and is a network associate of the MacArthur Foundation Research Network on an Aging Society. She was previously an associate professor of research at the University of Southern California and prior to that, a senior economist at the RAND Corporation. Her research addresses the challenges individuals face in maintaining health and financial security across their lifespans and the challenges to society of an aging population. Topics of special interest are informal and formal costs of Alzheimer’s disease, medication adherence and insurance design, medical expenditures, savings and wealth, labor force behavior, financial and non-financial support between generations of family members. She approaches these topics from the perspective of a trained labor economist with additional expertise in health economics and econometrics and with a multidisciplinary approach that comes from collaborations with colleagues from gerontology, medicine, psychology, and demography. Dr. Zissimopoulos received her B.A. summa cum laude from Boston College and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Los Angeles.
